The preceding modules of this Artifact introduced us to many digital archives within and outside Georgia Tech. We were required to choose a building, or a space in the GT premises and collect relevant historical documents to understand how the place has evolved and how it may be improved for the community.

Finally, we organized all this information in the form of a business letter and addressed it to a person in authority of the building. The letter includes the building's original foundation, purpose and modifications, eight archival documents, its current utilities, and our recommendations which were supported by the information provided above.

Goals:

  • Conducting advanced archival research
  • Learning to compose a business letter
  • Building skills necessary for teamwork

Purpose:

The letter was addressed to the director of the building. Besides proposing improvements, we, as students, also wanted to express our deep interest in sustainable projects, and we wanted to study and inform about the Kendeda Building which is truly an epitome of a regenerative, and inclusive space.

We explored the design schematics of the building and added direct narratives and presentations of the design teams. We also upheld its values - the Petals, its aesthetics and its current use as an academic building. Towards the end, we expressed our sincere appreciation to the director and the entire team for their wholehearted effort. Even though the majority of our team members have not visited the building, we still wanted to convey the connection we felt towards it.

Defining Features:

A defining feature in the letter is the mention of salvaged materials from the renovation of different buildings from Georgia and Georgia Tech. The buildings include the Tech Tower, the State Archives building, and the Alumni Center.

Audience:

Primarily, our course instructor is our audience. However, the letter is composed in a way to inform anyone about the Kendeda building in simple language.

Revision:

According to our instructor's feedback, citation formats were revised to strengthen the credibility of our research. We could also present the information in a more conversational tone.
