If you need to digitize existing exams or assignments to upload them to Canvas, you can utilize Respondus 4.0, Links to an external site. or you can directly create these exams using Canvas Quizzes. Links to an external site.
Canvas Assignments can enable you to ask for a variety of files types to be submitted as graded activities. If these submissions are text-based such as a paper or a review report, you can use Turnitin Links to an external site. as an assignment type to check the originality of the submission and to prevent plagiarism.
Peer reviews
An effective way to engage students in higher levels of cognitive activities is using peer reviews. Canvas can enable Peer Review of Assignments Links to an external site. as well as Peer Review of Discussions. Links to an external site.
Digital collection and scoring of paper-based exams
If your assessments require students to write out formulas and proofs, you can consider using Gradescope. Links to an external site. Students can scan the responses using a mobile app and upload them back in to Gradescope, where you can digitally collect and grade these exams. However, students may also be able to share these responses with others. You may want to discuss the use of this tool with an expert first.
